An extra boost
Post-pandemic, having felt the impact of Covid-19 on live performance, Edinburgh’s Soundhouse Choir leader, Heather Macleod, wanted to revisit and reboot the choir.
She asked Noble Ox for help. Together, we helped the choir find its mighty voice again.
The heart of a community choir
The soul of a big band
In 2016, Heather Macleod was a choir leader seeking a choir. The Soundhouse Organisation, with its mission to promote independent live music, was looking to fulfil its educational remit. Soundhouse Choir was meant to be!
From the start, Soundhouse Choir has been a big community choir and part of a much bigger picture. Choir members and audiences have enjoyed a wide range of projects and performances, from their home city of Edinburgh, Greyfriars Kirk, Queens Hall, Usher Hall and The Scottish Parliament, to the streets of Glasgow and Shetland’s Mareel. The choir has had a host of stellar live and recording collaborations along the way with Karine Polwart, Mark Bonnar, Stuart Nisbet, The Bevvy Sisters and Moishe’s Bagel.
Rebooting the choir – an extra boost
Throughout the pandemic, Heather kept the choir going via Zoom. Post-pandemic, she wanted to revisit and reboot the live choir. Working together, we explored the origins, ethos and credentials of the choir. We defined its heart and soul, and what makes it special and unique within a very busy choir landscape. Importantly, we also explored the motivations of people who join and/or want to collaborate with Soundhouse Choir.
Noble Ox was delighted to receive this fantastic feedback from Heather,
‘I recently sought help from Noble Ox to focus on boosting my energy, particularly aimed at raising Soundhouse Choir numbers and spirit, after suffering the negative effects of covid on the act of singing.
‘With Charlotte’s expert and generous professional guidance, coupled with a valuable feeling of partnership, it was a very inspiring exercise which distilled down exactly who the choir is, what the choir does and what it stands for. It has instilled a confidence and clarity in terms of the choir’s ID to move forward with.
‘Now, equipped with a bucket load of language to work with, and numbers boosted, I would highly recommend the services of Noble Ox. It does what it says on the tin!”
